It’s pretty much a given that we are probably not going to get another Lethal Weapon movie. The studio won’t do it with Mel Gibson, Richard Donner won’t do it without him, Gibson won’t do it without Donner. Sad. Anyway, it looks like the property is headed to television.
Warner Bros. Television will produce the series which centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew.
There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh who, having recently suffered a minor heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life. I would have to say that this is one television project that I can’t get behind. It would be like trying to re-launch AC/DC or something.
Donner’s last known pitch for Lethal Weapon 5 was for Riggs and Murtaugh to go on an RV vacation as retirees, only to have the RV ram into something and destroy it, unravelling a criminal action scenario.
