The Original Manly Viral Street Racer Video

This might be the first viral video ever.  It is from way back in 19 and 76 and features a man driving a Ferrari 275B through the streets of Paris at excessive speeds at 5:30am on an August morn.  Highly illegal and in some cases verifiable insanity such as driving through a narrow arch at high speed with a blind exit.  Few things sound sexier than that 275 gearing down in an urban environment.  The driver was Claude Lelouch and he attached a gyro-stablised camera to the nose of his car.

There is one problem though.  Real drivers will spot this.  The audio of the 275 engine does not match with what is happening on screen.  Two giveaways are the beginning where the car is climbing rapidly in revs, too high for what is happening on screen and at the end, where the sound of the engine is one of a car still traveling despite coming to a halt.  Also to identify is the fact that the car is traveling at seemingly too slow a pace for the RPMs given out by the 275 engine.

Well… this is because the car is actually a Mercedes 450 6.9.  Lalouch claims to have reached speeds of 130mph+ but in actuality did not cross 90mph maximum.  It would not be the first time someone dubbed an engine sound for a chase sequence.  The Mustang in Bullitt?  The sound of that car came not from a Fastback but really from a monstrous GT40.  Just sounds better I guess.  So this one is an oldie but a goodie.  Someone should try it again, maybe in a real 275 or maybe show some balls and try it in a 438.
