Manly man Gerard Depardieu is set to play Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in a film currently in development with the working title of ‘Stalin’s Sofa’ (‘Le divan de Staline’) at Leopardo Filmes. The film will be set in the earl 1950s Soviet Union and will center on a young artist who is commissioned to create Stalin’s monument and must endure some KGB scrutiny.
Actress turned filmmaker Fanny Ardant is also set to helm the film based on French author Jean-Daniel Baltassat’s 2013 novel carrying the same title. Mosfilm will provide costumes and props but won’t co-produce the film itself.
Depardieu is actuall a Russian civilian. I guess it’s time to blacklist him for not being a proper democrat by not conforming.
