I was going to run this as a poll but in thinking about it, there’d be too many options/answers, so instead it is just a question put to readers of ManlyMovie – what’s your favourite Fred Ward movie?
Some might think Fred Ward and only think ‘Tremors’ (and I hope he returns with Kevin Bacon) but he appeared in more than that. How about Escape From Alcatraz, one of the manliest prison break movies ever? That was one of his first big roles as one of the Anglin brothers who successfully escaped ‘The Rock’. Or there is another early one, my personal favourite of Ward’s in Southern Comfort, you can read more on that here in the review: Southern Comfort: Fred Ward vs. Varmants, which was a Walter Hill movie y’know.
Further down the line Ward of course appeared in Tremors, but also had a good turn in The Naked Gun 33 1/3.
Then, more recently he appeared in Armoured, which was a sort of underrated heist movie as well as a heavyweight turn in True Detective. All said, he is certainly an underrated actor and deserving of more recognition.
