The slow understated nature of a good Cold War thriller is a good counterweight to the fluff that’s sometimes too easy to digest. And so with that, we look forward to an upcoming spy thriller by Drake Doremus, only it’s not a ‘Cold War’ movie, unless you want to call it ‘Cold War II’.
He’s been hired to direct ‘The Tracking Of A Russian Spy’ for Studiocanal and The Picture Company. This was based on the novella by journalist Mitch Swenson and adapted by Charles Cumming and centers on a secret romance Swenson had with Katya, a young and mysterious Russian woman he met in a New York nightclub.
This is kind of also based on the 2010 Russian spy scandal in the United States, so it should have a somewhat contemporary vibe to it. Also, Richard Gere’s ‘The Double’ is also loosely based on that. That movie was panned by many, but I thought it was worth one watch, it wasn’t too bad at all.
In that movie, Gere plays a deep cover Russian mole who is reactivated all these years later.
