James Wan Thinks Fast 7 Deserved An Oscar

Director James Wan seems to have a high picture of his movie, Furious 7.  Well you know, I don’t share that opinion.  Wan even thinks that the movie should have earned an Oscar.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Wan expressed his dismay at the film’s Oscar snub for Best Visual Effects and also Best Original Song:

“I thought we were guaranteed to get a nomination. One was for the song, and the other one was for the visual effects. Furious 7 would not have been able to be completed if it wasn’t for the amazing team that got behind it and finished all the visual effects. There were all these other great movies, but the movies that were nominated, I’ve seen all that stuff before. But we have never seen a movie where we took someone who was no longer around and kept him alive. Literally. So that was one that I felt cheated on.”

Well, today we learn that James Wan has never watched Gladiator.  Either that, or the CGI used to recreate the later Oliver Reed (who died during production) was so good that it fooled him, a film maker.  So this stuff has been done, in an era when CGI was not as advanced.

But James Wan is not the only person involved who thought the movie deserved an Oscar.  Whereas Wan, who is producing a new Mortal Kombat movie, felt ‘cheated’ on a lowly aspiration of an effects Oscar, Diesel said Furious 7 was a shoe-in for Best Picture!
