There’s a new boxing movie out today, an ensemble one. Alec Baldwin, Mike Tyson, Danny Glover and Michael Madsen will star in ‘Back in the Day’. I don’t know if I’ll have time to review that but it has slipped way under the radar, so I thought most would like to know.
Synopsis: A young boxer is taken under the wing of a mob boss after his Mother dies and his Father is run out of town for being an abusive alcoholic.
“I tried to creatively make the story different than it’s been done so many times, with him winning in the beginning and explaining how he got there,” DeMeo — the star, writer, and producer — tells EW. “The boxing genre’s been done 5,000 times. I didn’t feel like I needed to have my movie with huge, long, drawn-out 15-round fights and extensive training, which we’ve seen 500 times.”
