Who Should Take On ‘The Predator’?

So there’s another Predator movie coming, with Shane Black writing the movie and directing too (yes!). But one thing a Predator movie needs though is a real hardass to give the alien a good hunt.  We should take a look at who could fill these boots.  Suggestions?

Gerard Butler
Chances are like the other Predator movies, the leading man will end up killing the alien.  So the casting of this role is crucial, the actor must realistically convince us that he could do it.  So our first name into the hat here, Gerard Butler.  300 and Olympus Has Fallen were very manly movies and Butler has carved himself out somewhat of a leading action man piece of Hollywood.

Karl Urban
Karl Urban has danced with badass aliens before.  Don’t forget the (slightly) underrated Doom, from 2005.  Of course, Urban is the real Dredd too and not because he’s some prepubescent teenaged girl favorite.  Urban, as it happens, would’ve been one of my choices to play the real John Connor in a new Terminator movie.  Of course, they had to fuck that casting up…

Wesley Snipes
Alright, so this is a bit of a long shot.  Wesley is still in the dog house, so to speak. Don’t put too much stock in his Expendables 3 casting just yet.  For that reason I don’t think they’ll be knocking down his door for this role.  But it could work, he still doesn’t look that old at all and has firmly established action credentials and physicality.

Scott Adkins
It’s almost predictable to say it at this point, but why not Scott Adkins?  Leadership material, check.  Acting skills, ergo the ability to sell the horror aspect that Black will no doubt be bringing back to the series, check.  Action ability and agility, check.  Scott Adkins could more than convincingly throw down with a Predator.

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Schwarzenegger isn’t a no-brainer anymore for this but he’s still up there, high on the contenders list.  Anyone who has recently seen those pics of Arnold in that red Dutch-like shirt, complete with stogie, can’t deny that the potential to do it is still most certainly there.  If only Arnold had held out and turned down “Terminator”, maybe this is what they would’ve called on him for instead.  Maybe they still will..

Joe Manganiello
Joe Manganiello certainly has the physicality and presence to fill in such a role.  At the very least he’d make a good support role for someone like Schwarzenegger.  In fact Schwarzenegger’s Sabotage crew would almost have been a good set of opponents for a Predator, I’m sure Shane Black would’ve thought something similar himself.

Michael Jai White
MJW sort of falls into the same category as Scott Adkins.  An actor that is more or less criminally underused and underrated.  Jai White is the perfect package of superb actor and excellent martial artist.  And even if they did not cast him as the leading man, again, he sure would be fitting material for a support role in the movie.
