Emmerich Shits On Marvel Movies

Roland Emmerich, director of cool movies like Universal Soldier and Independence Day, does not like Marvel movies.  It seems Emmerich is not a fan of action figures in leotards who fly around in episodes of silly bullshit.  Here is what he said in an interview with The Guardian;

“When you look at my movies it’s always the regular Joe Schmo that’s the unlikely hero. A lot of Marvel movies, they show people in funny suits running around. I don’t like people in capes. I find it silly when someone dons a superhero suit and flies. I don’t understand it. I grew up in Germany, that’s probably why.”

Of course, the neckbeard backlash is soon to follow.  How dare Emmerich critisize Marvel, even though Marvel’s movies have become progressively worse and kitsch with each new iteration. You’re not supposed to point out that the stories are shit, with the ‘plot’ for each being an extended promo  for standalone movies and kids merchandise.  These movies often seem to lead up to a similar finale – an action figurine destroys an entire city in a scene comprised exclusively of computer animation, in an attempt to fend off an aggressive assailant from outer space, also wearing a suit.

Man, fuck these comic book movies!
