They’re rebooting the Ocean’s Eleven movie series, this time with a female cast. Obviously, this is simply a deliberate political move and after Ghostbusters, people are going to be cynical. The announcement that the movie is in the pipe and set to star Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Nora Lum and Helena Bonham-Carter, along with Rihanna, has caused an anti-politics-in-movies trend on Twitter.
People are having fun, using the hashtag #FeministAMovie. You basically take a popular tagline and give it a satirical new name, highlighting the lunacy of the ultra left and their attempts to weaponize entertainment.
But some people think you should take your ‘progressive’ medicine and like it, as some of the bigger newspapers in Europe took offence to it. One example is The Telegraph (which was funnily enough lambasted for being too right wing), which takes issue with people satirizing propaganda. I won’t copy what they say directly, because I’ve heard this source threatens people who copy their text, but you can read the article here and drink in that salt! While you’re at it, vote on their little poll there. It’s not going too well, they call the people on Twitter ‘trolls’, but currently their own readers are agreeing with them.
Here’s more from ‘Esquire’;
On Wednesday, an updated roster for the new Ocean’s 11 circulated, featuring an impressive lineup of leading women: Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Nora Lum, and Helena Bonham-Carter. But an all female cast, and a diverse one at that, was a cross to great to bare, and #FeministAMovie was born to protest and belittle feminists, because how dare they try to nudge their way into the entertainment industry.
And then #FeministAMovie was taken over by trolls.
Of course, now we’re going to have to come up with some of our own here.
