Jesse Ventura is never shy about giving up some trivia about Predator and this week he has been talking with The Expendables henchman Steve Austin. Ventura talks about the jungle taking him figuratively back to Vietnam and other things;
I went back. I actually had a few dreams down there. That’s where it came from, I went back. The weapons, the smell, the shooting. I remember my wife came down and told me at one point and yelled ‘the area is secured’ and rolled back over to sleep again and she was startled.
And when I went to do Predator, old things came out. For me it was an easy thing to do because I just did what I was trained to do. I was there with Gary Goldman and we were there a week ahead of time, Gary’s an old Green Beret. And we taught them patrolling, he would always put me at rear security so I could watch everybody else and critique at the end. And I feel proud because I’ve had many military come up to me and say they admire how that was done in Predator, because we controlled our spacing.
I used to fight with McTiernan in the middle of things and say you got everybody up close together, one round in the middle and your whole platoon is wiped out, what the hell? And I had to learn, we’re shooting a movie, we’re not filming a documentary.
I wish someone would ask Ventura about Demolition Man, where there is a rumoured fight scene somewhere between he and Sylvester Stallone that was cut from the movie…
