Keaton On Why He Turned Down Batman Forever

We all know that Michael Keaton turned down Batman Forever.  And that Tim Burton did the same because of studio interference in an attempt to ‘kiddie up’ the movie with a view to selling more McDonalds merchandise.  But we’ve never heard Keaton offer his reasons.

He has told THR this week that among other things, he didn’t like the script.  “it sucked… I knew it was in trouble when he [Schumacher] said, ‘Why does everything have to be so dark?’”

Indeed!

Now he didn’t speak about it more than that but take a look at these early pre-production concept model images for Keaton’s third Batman suit.  Looks like Bruce Wayne was hitting the gym a bit more!
