20 Of The Best TV Intros Ever

THUNDER IN PARADISE

So this is another family themed action TV show, but it does elicit somewhat nostalgic memories. Thunder in Paradise may be of suspect quality in hindsight, but its intro is pretty decent.  Although I think it might be wrong to say it was ‘inspired’ by the Baywatch theme (I’m not sure which actually entered production first), I think it’s clear that Miami Vice had more than a little say in this one.

THE SOPRANOS

I would personally call this my favorite TV intro ever and definitely the greatest TV series of all time.  The intro features Tony Soprano driving home to Woke Up This Morning by Alabama 3 and while some think it didn’t change over its six seasons, the World Trader Center was removed after 9/11.

The Writers Guild of America named The Sopranos the best-written TV series of all time, while TV Guide ranked it the best television series of all time.  They are not wrong.  If you haven’t seen this masterpiece yet, for God’s sake, why are you waiting?  It’s so rare where every single episode of a TV show is 10/10.

BAND OF BROTHERS

When you see that HBO ‘interference’ logo, you know you’re probably going to see something good. Band of Brothers has a great, iconic television intro.  Following the same washed out palette as Saving Private Ryan, it says a lot without any hint of aggression.

It’s a pity that the follow up series, The Pacific, didn’t have such a good intro.  It was alright, but by comparison it felt bloated and left less of an impression.

KNIGHT RIDER

I wasn’t old enough to witness this when it first aired but man, it must have left a major impression on those who watched it in its original run.  It’s cool and futuristic, mysterious.  It changed slightly over its four seasons but remained catchy and ‘worth watching’ if playing back on home media.

It also has one of the best intro themes ever, everyone tries to rip this off or pay for the rights to use or sample it.

WCW THUNDER

Sometimes the best television is produced through fear, jealousy, hatred and dirty competition.  This is what happened during the infamous ‘Monday Night War’, when wrestling companies WCW and The WWF were at each others throats.

And it is less common that a ‘B-show’ actually has a better intro than a flagship show.  WCW Thunder was the best intro the company offered, better than their generic Nitro intro.  It’s probably in the top two intros for wrestling ever.
