Ridley Scott On Canned Alien3 Reboot

Everywhere on the ‘net calls this thing Alien 5, when it’s really a retcon of Alien3.  The Neill Blomkamp-led sequel to Aliens is DOA and out promoting Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott has once again spoken of the movie;

“They wanted to do Alien, er, Awakening – Neill Blomkamp. I said fine. I was going to be the producer. If I could have, I would have. Except I do question – why have both [Blomkamp’s Alien and Scott’s Alien] out there? It seems like shooting your big toe off – it doesn’t make sense.

But they didn’t go forward with it, Fox, so I just kind of kept out of it. I mean, I’d literally ignited this thing to bring it off the ground again, because it was lying there dormant on a shelf. I had this thing to bring it back up – but here we are.”

This comes along with today’s news that yet another Alien prequel will shoot within 14 months, which perhaps is bigger indicator that the other movie is dead.  I mean think about it… isn’t it pretty shitty that something as cool as the Colonial Marines have only ever appeared in one movie?

Are the people at Fox stupid?  A teaser trailer featuring the sounds of a pulse rifle and motion tracker alone would send audiences into a frenzy before the movie they went in to see even started.
