Steven Seagal has been banned from Ukraine.
The reasoning for the ban was his acceptance of Russian citizenship and endorsing Crimea’s vote to return once again to Russia, the Guardian reported.
The ban will last five years, with Seagal joining Gerard Depardieu as the latest celebrity to be blackballed from the country.
“In compliance with Item A of Article 89 of the Russian Federation Constitution, the President issued the order to accord Russian Federation citizenship to Steven Frederic Seagal, born April 10, 1952, in the United States of America,” the Kremlin said in a brief official statement a while back, confirming Sensei Seagal’s citizenship of Russia, since he has a grandparent originating there.
But how can endorsing the outcome of a referendum merit such a harsh punishment?
In a letter to the local news site Apostrophe the Ukrainian status quo said the actor had “committed socially dangerous actions … that contradict the interests of maintaining Ukraine’s security.”
