The planned remake of Starsky and Hutch by recently fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has been canned at Amazon Studios. However according to Amazon, the decision is unrelated to the director’s recent firing by Disney. A spokesperson for the company says that the decision was made before a series of controversial tweets that he had posted years ago had resurfaced.
“We passed on the project completely months ago,” a spokesperson for Amazon Studios told Yahoo Finance. “There was no statement. This is the same for any other project we do not move forward with.”
The property was first dusted off in 2004 with Ben Stiller as David Starsky and Owen Wilson as Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, this 2004 version was not a remake but a sort of prequel to the television series. It got mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
The original series ran from 1975-1979.
