Of course using miniatures means that a budget of time and resources is still going to be placed on the scene, which means more realism insofar as there is less of a temptation to jump the shark. It’s also tangible — real parts are blown to and fro etc.
This video also shows the near obsessive eye for detail put into the bridge sequence in the film.
