ROMERO PLANNED ‘ROAD OF THE DEAD’

The late George A. Romero closed out his ‘Dead’ series with Survival of the Dead, a 2009 comedy effort that was poorly received.  That wasn’t supposed to be the final entry however.

Bloody-Disgusting has a new retrospective on the little-known Road of the Dead, a planned movie set on an island.

“The story is set on an island where zombie prisoners race cars in a modern-day Coliseum for the entertainment of wealthy humans.

Obviously, it did not get made.  And I say for the better, this is a direction Romero took the series in that I didn’t care for.  Intelligent zombies, too much of a departure from the original premise (even though the use of weapons are shown in the very first movie).

At any rate, Army of the Dead sounds like a good update.  Zack Snyder handled the property well with Dawn of the Dead, and with Army it sounds like we’re sticking to the basics – thieves taking advantage of the zombie apocalypse by trying to raid a bank.
