R.I.P. Hot Rod

If you don’t know who Rowdy Roddy Piper is, you really should.  Sadly, this true manly man has just passed away.  Roddy Piper died of a heart attack in his sleep.  He was 61 years old.  Piper was probably best known outside the wrestling industry for his groundbreaking movie They Live, a 1988 cult classic where a man quite literally begins to see the ruling class for who they are.

Only recently I started to listen to the Rowdy one’s podcasts.  And in true Hot Rod style, they booted him off Podcast One for speaking his mind too much.  Those were great podcasts.

A favourite of mine was when Piper told the story of his fight with Kevin Nash.  Kevin Nash, the seven foot monster who appeared as ‘The Russian’ in the 2004 reboot of The Punisher, was ‘running roughshot’ over smaller wrestlers in 1997, said Piper. Piper, old school tough, decided to shoot on him in the ring and give him a taste of his own medicine.  After the match, Nash confronted Piper in his locker room, then Piper proceeded to beat the shit out of him and throw him out of the room and continue unlacing his boots.
