THR recently reported on Fox’s order of The Exorcist to pilot, describing the modern reinvention as “a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil.”
Now it looks like the deal has its director in Rupert Wyatt. According to The Live Feed the Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer has signed on to chill down rooms of television.
William Blatty most famously adapted his own work for William Friedkin’s horror film of the same name, for which the author won one of the picture’s two Oscars.
The real cool stuff happening with The Exorcist though is the release of the Exorcist III: Director’s Cut later this year. In short, since the second movie was shit and the third movie was ‘decent’ but butchered, this new cut is basically the real sequel to the original movie and the first time the public will ever see it, since it was hitherto lost.
