Gibson Calls Batman Vs. Superman A ‘Piece Of Shit’

While promoting his upcoming war movie Hacksaw Ridge, director Mel Gibson was interviewed by Deadline and they eventually got around to discussing budgets for movies.  They spoke about obscene budgets, an example being Batman Vs. Superman;

GIBSON: […] if you’re spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don’t know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on Batman V Superman that they’re admitting to?

DEADLINE: I want to say $250 million. Then you’ve got marketing.

GIBSON: And it’s a piece of sh*t.

DEADLINE: Well it was self-serious and it wasn’t fun at all.

Of course, the internet is in uproar over this, even though I’m not sure Gibson isn’t specifically referring to one movie there.  Spandex fanboys will probably sharpen their pitchforks now and aim them towards Mel Gibson.

Their ire will also probably not let them digest a very interesting question here.  Where is a quarter of a billion going to in a movie like that?  Here’s a better example, Independence Day: Resurgence had a budget over over $160 million, yet the entire thing was filmed on a fucking stage.

Go and look at it.  Not just CGI spaceships, but CGI deserts, CGI oceans, CGI skies.  They even cut corners on a scene where a guy is in a fishing boat, hoaxing us out with a horrid green screen ocean.  And when Goldblum and Co. were in the desert at Area 51, they were standing on a stage with a CGI landscape behind them.

So really, where is the money going to?  It would not surprise my if something is being syphoned off somewhere…
