First it was Mel Gibson’s turn, when they accused him of landing in Bulgaria drunk and terrified of being kidnapped in a terror plot. Of course that was bullshit. Now it’s Stallone’s turn. They’ve accused him of having an affair with Angie Kassabie on the set of The Expendables 3. Kassabie can be seen throughout quite a few Expendables 3 photos appearing with the stars. She is a celebrity cook in Bulgaria and works on the menus for the cast and crew. The article states, and this is only one of several sites carrying the same story, that: “They were very close. Sylvester I keep inventing reasons to look for Angie – giving her additional contracts”. Sylvester has fatal crush on her. Kassabie was the special guest at the birthday of Sly”. It’s not just one site spreading it around either, quite a few. Here’s another. And another. There are more, you get the point.
The yarn doesn’t stop there. It goes on to say that the relationship is long term and that Stallone even had the woman flown to the US for secret meetings: “Angie also traveled to the U.S., where they had secret meetings. According to its close affair between the two is not just sex because their relationship continues for a long time.”. The article then goes on to state that Kassabie ended her relationship with another man because of Stallone’s interest in her. Could this be true? Highly unlikely, given how devoted Stallone appears to be to his wife and family. It’s kind of sad that today Bulgarian media are raving about Stallone’s praise of Bulgaria at his Russian exhibition, while reporting crap at the same time.
At the start of The Expendables 3 shoot, a similar article stopped shy of accusing director Patrick Hughes of the same thing, when it stated that Kassabie could not keep her hands off him and was seen leaving a hotel with him, insinuating some type of fling without outright accusing. I thought it was ridiculous/trivial, and ignored it. But this stuff is getting worse and it seems like it is almost every week or so the Bulgarian press is now coming out with stuff like this. On the one hand, they thank and celebrate stars for bringing industry to their location, then on the other smear them with outright bullshit.
More and more movies and TV shows will be shot in Bulgaria. It appears going there is a risky endeavour for cast and crew. Headed to Bulgaria? Expect some character assassination, the point here being that this is an added drawback to cheap filming locations. The Bulgarians, in accepting an influx of film production to their country must hold their own press and media responsible.
