Tekken 2: Revenge Of Kazuya Poster Revealed

UPDATED:  Two new trailers have been released, see here.

Last year when it was revealed that a new Tekken movie was in the works, ‘Tekken: A Man Called X‘, there was a temporary furore from the makers of said movie who went to abnormal lengths to deny that it was a Tekken movie.

Well it turns out that it is a Tekken movie and they were just pissed that it was leaked to the public too early.  And it’s not called Tekken: A Man Called X, but Tekken 2: Revenge of Kazuya.  The movie is a prequel to the 2010 movie apparently.  Which to my interpretation, leaves plenty of room for it being not related in any way storywise.

The synopsis is this: “Suffering from amnesia, a young man trying to discover his true identity is kidnapped by an underground crime organization and turned into a ruthless assassin.”  It seems that Ian Anthony Dale is not returning to play Kazuya.

At first you’d probably think that this has no relation to the original game (Tekken 2, which I so happen to think is the greatest video game ever created), but for long term gamers and fans of ’90s beat ’em ups this might ring a bell.  In that game, Kazuya exacted revenge on his father and became the a leading criminal syndicate leader.  It would be pretty nice to see a direct adaptation of that game.  The presence of Bryan Fury would suggest otherwise though, with Gary Daniels returning.

One thing though, if they leave out Paul Phoenix from this movie, again, I’ll be pissed.  It’s a little known fact that Geoff Meed was actually cast in the role of Paul Phoenix for the original Tekken movie in 2009.  At the 11th hour, they axed the character and him from the movie.  Way back then Meed was active on the IMDb and told fans that he did indeed test for the movie and that he too was baffled to be told to go home ultimately.  And that’s just one big pile of shit, you can’t have a Tekken movie without Paul Phoenix.

The release date for Tekken 2: Revenge of Kazuya, is still unknown.  Previous reports of August 12th are, for now, not true.
