UPDATED: Here’s an update on this release, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, and our own digging. The release dates are as follows: August 27th – Australia. September 1st – UK. September 8th – Scandanvia. November 4th – North America.
The set will include five hours of new footage, 25 audio commentaries, new artwork and lost footage. Below you can check out a new clip from this set.
A while back I speculated (okay, ranted) that the delay was deliberate and an attempt to squeeze money out of digital downloads/streaming. For example, the official page still links people to the ‘HD’ versions streaming on Amazon, if you want to watch seasons 2-5 in HD too. But those are not the real deal. Consider this: the bit rate and size of season one Blu Ray episodes are up to six times beefier than Amazon’s ‘1080p’ season one episodes. Not good enough.
So really this is great news. And if you haven’t taken the time to have already watched this truly masterful TV series, there is no better time than this year. It’s better than Breaking Bad (oh yeah, I went there), The Wire (and there!) and anything else.
It really is the greatest TV show of all time, something Wikipedia gets right for once, in it’s opening descriptive paragraph…
