Is Sylvester Stallone Set To Play An Antihero Hitman?

Since Sylvester Stallone is no spring chicken, it’s probably an idea to start moving roles further into action/thriller territory rather than straight up action.  In fact the question was asked a while back, is Sylvester Stallone done with action?

Following The Expendables 3 Stallone will appear in Reach Me, a low budget drama with Tom Berenger and Thomas Jane, and his first in a while.  Keep and eye out for an early exclusive review by ManlyMovie on that one.

Anyway, further down the road Stallone is said to be considering playing Greg Scarpa, a mob hitman involved in up to 20 murders.  According to PageSix.com, “the screenplay by Nick Pileggi, who wrote “Goodfellas” and “Casino” will gloss over Scarpa’s involvement in 20 murders, and focus on his career as a T.E., a top echelon informant for the F.B.I., who secretly solved the “Missisipi Burning” case.”

I suppose this makes sense, for Stallone to head further into ‘Charles Bronson’ territory at this stage.  Not sure how people will respond to this though, coming off some heavily slapsticked roles such as The Expendables 3 and, supposedly, a large cameo in The ExpendaBelles.  Stallone has always struggled to be taken seriously as an actor, so we’ll see how this pans out…
