Chances are that most of the readers of this site are familiar with that logo. It usually preceded something violent, often in the opening scene. The studio and distributor behind the likes of The Terminator and RoboCop suffered financially throughout the 1990’s before being acquired by MGM.
Now, MGM have quietly brought the old company back online. The company plans to position Orion Pictures as a specialty multiplatform distribution arm, starting with the October release of horror sequel The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
I don’t know about anyone else but the Orion Pictures logo, with its star-laden background, always instantly reminds me on Omni Consumer Products, probably because in our house the RoboCop VHS got worn out more than any other. Now all we need is for someone to resurrect the old Canon Group and Carolco Pictures. And for old time’s sake, here is the trailer for The Town That Dreaded Sundown, with the famous logo appearing at the start.
