Fury Tops The Box Office – ManlyMovie

Fury Tops The Box Office

FURYBOXOFFICE

It has been a good weekend for manly movies as the WW2 flick comes back to beat off the competition.  David Ayer’s R-Rated tank thriller ‘Fury’ has topped the box office garnering $23 million.  It has been a while since we’ve seen a WW2 movie of this scope have a run at the box office, so it offers us some much needed breathing space in the midst of ongoing superhero/CGI hegemony.

Fury had a budget of $68 million so considering that the movie has not opened internationally yet, and you can expect it to do big business in Europe, it looks like a safe bet to call this a financial success.

Hopefully the knock-on effect will be positive.  For example it could well grease the wheels, so to speak, on other WW2 projects stuck in limbo.  One example could be Danny Boyle’s ‘Telemark’, a ten part Band of Brothers style WW2 TV series, big budget, focusing on the Allied attempt to use commandos to thwart the German nuclear programme in Norway.

Fury will prove to be director David Ayer’s biggest hit, with his previous weekend debut record standing at $13 million for End of Watch and $12 million for Street Kings (good movie).  Sabotage pulled a pitiful $5 million despite stellar promotion.
