Like I said recently, all anyone wants out of the Alien franchise is a real continuation of the second movie (bring back the Colonial Marines!). The third and fourth movies were good, underrated even, but didn’t stand up to the second (or first).
According Neil Blomkamp, director of District 9 and Elysium, he was actually working on a fifth Alien movie and he posted concept art for it on his Instagram account. The most interesting picture was a drawing of an older Ripley and Cpl. Hicks, the latter with a badly scarred face from his showdown with ‘the things’ in Aliens. See below and check out more at his profile.
Oh and he’s just uploaded another shot of Hicks. All I can say is, make this fucking movie!
Blomkamp says the project probably won’t happen though. And I suppose he’s right, with Prometheus 2 going ahead. If it did it could possibly retcon Alien3, where obviously by the end credits, both the characters of Hicks and Ripley were dead. And when Ripley is alive again in Resurrection, Hicks was also dead for 200 years, so they’d be retconning that too. But I could work with that.
It would also retcon the bilious Aliens: Colonial Marines I’d imagine, where Hicks ‘fake his death’ or something (I played the game and even I can’t remember the exact story, it was so bad). Fox said officially that that was canon. The last time I really heard about an Alien 5 was many years ago, around 2000. Back then the project was called Alien: The Gates of Hell.
