So we all know by now that there’s a new Alien movie coming, directed by Neill Blomkamp. It will star Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn. It may even film or enter production as early as August.
People are calling this movie Alien 5, simply because it’s the first Alien movie since Alien Resurrection and because a headline went around the net where Blomkamp denied that it was a new Alien 3. He didn’t deny it though, he just reiterated that he didn’t wish to respect Alien 3. Don’t people read shit anymore?
For sure though, it’s a ‘reboot’ of all events in the timeline beyond the end credits of Aliens, making it a new Alien 3. Some fanboys are up in arms over this. What do you think? Scrap everything post-Aliens? Of course scrapping the original Alien 3 would also mean scrapping Alien Resurrection.
Me, I was never one of those people who hated Alien 3 and 4. In fact when I hear that it’s from people who think that it’s the ‘knowledgeable’ thing to say, the same people who have seen 75% of Die Hard 2 once, 14 years ago, and insist its a bad sequel just for being a sequel. I think both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are good movies.
Still I want to see Blomkamp’s take. Maybe it could be even better.
