2) The One That Got Away (1996)
We’re back into actual combat here, with one of the survivors of the Bravo Two Zero unit. The Sean Bean movie was based on Andy McNab’s account, while this one is based on Chris Ryan’s account.
Again, a problem here is that the entire thing is fictional, or most of it anyway.
But to me this is a better version that B20 (1999). B20 has aged somewhat poorly, its almost cheesy and goofy. But this version has held up better, because the tone is much more serious and ominous. There is some truly shitty humour in Bravo Two Zero, but this one ain’t got time or such jibber jabber.
Paul McGann was a good choice for Chris Ryan too. Very good choice in fact. Taken as a fictional war movie, this is one of the best Gulf War stories you’ll find.
