J.K. Simmons, who appeared in Terminator: Genisys, despite the fact that the movie has bombed. Or, to use a quote from a Dirty Harry movie, has gone down like a turd in a swimming pool.
Speaking with Peter Sciretta, Simmons said of his character O’Brien: “Yes, we are told O’Brien does [survive]… in fact, we went back and did a little added shot on the roof of the whole helicopter sequence to make sure that we see that after Arnold throws me away, so that he can save people, I’m one of those that he saves and I’m still alive and watching what’s happening.”
The Whiplash star continued: “There are a lot of ways we could go with O’Brien and we’ve actually have had those discussions already, so I do know where it goes – but that’s part of the fun of the character, he’s the only guy in 2017, in the regular world, that has a clue what’s going on.”
“Nobody believes him, but he does sorta know what’s up, or is beginning to figure out what the whole story is here. So I think if we make the sequels as they continue, I think O’Brien’s credibility level will develop.”
Optimistic. Because according to Box Office Pro, the movie has a budget total of 220 million when marketing is included. And since the studio will take less than 75% of domestic gross and even less from the international take, the film is going to have to go way north of 400 million, especially since it has been a disaster and everyone, fans and critics alike, hates it. Not to mention the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be around 70 when the movie gets rolling.
It’s more likely that this current movie has put the series on ice. I’m betting that Jim Cameron will oversee a remake in 2020 or somewhere around there, picking his own director, kind of like he did with Sanctum.
