3) Day Of The Dead (1985)
The remake for this one may not have continued the trend, but now on this list there is no more room for remakes anyway. Romero’s third of this original trilogy is the third best movie he has ever made. And possibly his most underrated.
As stated multiple times also on this site, added value can be taken if you follow the antagonist as the actual protagonist. Joseph Pilato, playing Captain Henry Rhodes, makes this a classic. Placed in an impossible position, Rhodes must not only battle the undead but liberal treachery!
Aside from that, it’s also a great Romero zombie yarn. The pressure cooker atmosphere is there, the stillness is there. There is a trademark sense of doom.
