Top Five: Living Dead Movies
1) Dawn Of The Dead (1978)
What do you do when there’s a zombie apocalypse anyway? I think this film provides the ultimate sandbox answer. Everyone built their own little forts as children and wants to place themselves in the ‘what if’ scenario that these types of movies present, and Dawn of the Dead is the ultimate pure survival horror film.
Take two SWAT team members with heads on their shoulders -thinking men, have them split from the hysterical masses to map out their own route of survival, have George Romero handle it and you have a legit masterpiece. Despite not being as creepy as the original, or even the third movie, Dawn still manages what’s most important – a foreboding blanket of doom.
The Argento Cut is the one you want to track down, the superior version of George Romero’s best movie. One thing though, when is someone going to make a movie about those bikers we seen at the end? Now that is a premise that would sell.
