2) Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
There is just something about this film. The precursor to anything by William Friedkin or Tobe Hooper, George Romero was scaring the shit out of people, for real, at a time when goofy fun was king, in 1968.
Ironically despite being filmed on nickels and dimes, appearing in black and white and being the weaker end of 50 years old, the zombies in this movie are still, possibly, the creepiest ever. Maybe the less is more rule is in effect here.
This is a masterpiece and the very definition of survival horror. Here is one golden rule – peril, our heroes are always one window or doorway away from a fate worse than death. Unlike too many zombie features these days, for instance the cast of The Walking Dead are too dominant and are literally bored.
