If you’re going to talk to Pierce Brosnan about his thoughts about who should be the next James Bond, or perhaps what type of person it should be, the normal type of question would be ‘should it be a younger actor’ or should it be [insert name]. Of course, in this day and age, the question that must be shoe-horned in is whether or not the character should be gay.
When asked by an interviewer from Details magazine if he’d like to see a gay James Bond, the 007 veteran answered, ‘Sure, why not?’ Brosnan, who played the British superspy in four movies, did add, however, that he didn’t think it would happen anytime soon. ‘Actually, I don’t know how it would work,’ he told the men’s magazine (these are the kind of questions appearing in men’s magazines these days?). ‘I don’t think (franchise producer) Barbara (Broccoli) would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime.’
‘But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.’
Well, it sounds like they may have put him on the spot there. Had the answer not been the correct one… career suicide.
