We can usually get an idea on what’s next for the Bond franchise by keeping an eye on what happens in the books. And if we do that it looks like at some point in the future, James Bond and the actor who will be playing him will get a gay sidekick. New writer of the books Anthony Horowitz says that it’s time Bond was drawn into a more left wing way of thinking.
For the upcoming books, the writer says; ‘I gave him a very outspoken gay friend, who chides him and says ‘come on Bond, you’re living in the 20th century now not the Middle Ages.’
But Horowitz doesn’t stop there. He also feels that the women who surround Bond need to be more assertive and Bond’s attitude towards them should change. ‘With women, he has this sort of patronising carnal attitude with them which is absolutely accurate to the Bond of the books. But then by creating very strong women he is given quite a run for his money and his attitudes are challenged.’
Horowitz however insists that from now on, Bond will remain true to his roots and that aside from being updated for a contemporary audience, nothing will change.
