Top Five: Alternate Men To Play A T-800
1) Brian Thompson
Cameron said that he’d originally met Arnold Schwarzenegger at a diner to discuss his role playing Kyle Reese, the hero. It was when he looked across at Schwarzenegger when Cameron realised that ‘Arnold had a face like a bulldozer’, that he instantly knew that Arnold had to play the Terminator himself. Once, while watching Cobra (1986), I noticed something similar about Brian Thompson, then realised that he’d make a killer T-800.
They guy was an exceptional villain who just happened to be built like a Panzer. Thompson actually did appear in the first movie (nice night for a walk), so I guess that ruled out any chances he had. He would play a similar role in the 1990’s in the X-Files, where he played a cold blooded assassin.
