It seems that Eddie Murphy is once again examining the integrity of his career. In recent times and years he has said that he will not appear in ‘movies that suck’ any more. Apparently he is still adamant to pursue that trajectory.
His exact phrasing to The Washington Post is, ‘The check movies are over for me.’
Over the past two years Jerry Bruckheimer promised an ‘R’ rated Beverly Hills Cop IV. That did not come to pass and the movie has been delayed indefinitely. I’m not sure about this, but it’s likely that Eddie Murphy didn’t like the script and/or premise. It’s been a shitty road for Beverly Hills Cop for a long time now. We had the poor third movie, a TV pilot that was not picked up – you can read the screenplay review here, to understand why – and a series of terrible scripts for Beverly Hills Cop IV.
One script that I read – and I want to make it clear that this was totally scrapped – had Rosewood killed in the opening act. Obviously, that’s not a direction we’d like to see it going in. I know for some people they’d rather see a turd with a franchise name attached to it than nothing at all, but maybe it’s best Beverly Hills Cop rests in peace?
