Val Kilmer Returning For Top Gun 2

Tony Scott may have passed, but that doesn’t mean Top Gun 2 will not happen.  After Tom Cruise confirmed that he will be in the movie, Val Kilmer last night did the same on Facebook, saying that he was excited to reveal that he had signed on as well.  Kilmer caused a stir by mentioning Gene Hackman, but he didn’t mean manly man Hackman was in the movie, rather Hackman would be comparable to an instant ‘yes’ for him to sign onto a movie.

I’m not entirely sure of the premise, but unless it has changed, the story will revolve around drone warfare and its application in a hot war against real enemies as opposed to some muck shack somewhere.  When they prove ineffective, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer get back in their jets to show ’em how it’s done.  I’m guessing the enemy will be a fictional opponent in the South China Sea, or something like that.

The original Top Gun has been accused of being homoerotic.  Like Commando, I think that’s more bullshit.  If you can’t watch a movie about a pair of dudes serving their country without directing discussion towards homosexuality, it probably says more about you than anyone else.  People who enjoy that kind of thing aren’t into military hardware or Cold War dog fights, so naturally their little brains have to take on their own entertainment.
