Miller Talks Cancelled Mad Max 4

Back on the pre-historic internet, everyone had their favourite movie rumour that they’d keep track of.  At the beginning of the century, two popular ones were Terminator 3 and Mad Max 4. Remember, this was back when we were still spoilt and Terminator 3 especially sounded great.  As for Mad Max 4, it was supposed to even star Mel Gibson, but it didn’t happen.

In an interview with George Miller that Yahoo! conducted, we get the following;

9/11 happened. The American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar, so we lost close to 25 percent of our budget within days, and we just couldn’t recover that. We just couldn’t cut the film down.

Damn shame.  They got some distance into pre-production.  The Black on Black V8 was created, this I know for a fact.  A specialist from South Africa reconstituted and restored an old Ford Falcon to Interceptor status.  Then something happened and production stalled, then ceased.  The car was shipped back to Melbourne in Austalia and kept in storage, then wheeled out and dusted down in 2009 for pre-production once again and used in Fury Road.

So at least some DNA from the old movie is in there, Hardy’s car was actually built for Mel Gibson in 2002.
