We only cover movies and TV shows here, but this one is kind of a noteworthy anniversary. It’s 20 years to the day since the original Resident Evil was released. That’s one way to make yourself feel old.
This game was kind of a departure from blue hedgehogs and jolly plumbers. For those who missed it, imagine going from bright, cheerful two dimensional worlds to three dimensional horror, overnight. Blood, gore and survival. Without going overboard. How did Resident Evil hit so many right notes on its first release right out the door?
Obviously, the backgrounds were pre-rendered, but a lot didn’t know, or care. It looked damn real. Many still cite this as the best Resident Evil game ever.
To me, the series kind of finished up around ‘Resident Evil: Zero’, that was the last Resident Evil game I enjoyed. Everything from there on was just too much of a departure for me. As for those movies, well, we won’t even mention those.
Fuck you, Anderson.
