Just when you think you’re not hearing enough from John McTiernan, he then does an interview in Croatia where the interviewer is apparently our type of guy and is smart enough to ask him all the right questions. McTiernan has spoken with slobodnadalmacija.hr and they have drawn the mother load of answers.
The interview is not in English, but here are the pertinent points.
On why he has not worked with Sylvester Stallone, McT says “Didn’t have a chance. I think they asked me a few times, but I ran into other scenarios. In addition, Sly is a very good director, I don’t think he needed me.” Asked if he’d work with Stallone in future: “Who knows”.
McTiernan is also asked if he’s into The Expendables series and if he’d direct the next sequel, to which he says; “I looked at only the first movie, not the second. Again, I can say that Sly is very good at what he does and that I’m probably not needed”.
The interviewer then asks him, what about another Die Hard movie, would he direct one of those? The answer is short. “I will not.”
They also tell him that there’s another Conan movie being made. They ask him if he’d be interested in directing it. McTiernan says; “Of course! But wait, who would play Conan?” When they tell him that Arnold Schwarzenegger is the man who is returning he says: “Wow! King Lear!”
Finally, McTiernan tells the site that he’s set to film ‘War Birds’ this summer in Russia. So it looks like he’s still with Hannibal Classics. Interesting overall.
