McTiernan’s ‘Warbirds’ Is A Go

You can tell the real mettle of a man when they’ve stacked the deck against him.  The likes of John McTiernan may very well be the best action director ever (and one of the best director’s ever whatsoever) but now that they’ve blacklisted him – and I still think there’s more to it than meets the eye with his troubles – we’re going to see how well he’ll pull off a movie with lesser tools.

Now we know ‘Warbirds’ is still happening.  And it’s going to get rolling this summer in Russia.  It has also found its second unit director in Richard Dutcher.  Here is what Richard Dutcher has said on Facebook;

“Goodbye, Utah. I’m going to miss you. But only a little. I’ll be back someday soon. I’m headed off to Wyoming to write a second screenplay for John McTiernan (and my third screenplay so far this year!) and he’s asked me to be his 2nd unit director on a movie he’s shooting in the late summer in Russia and/or Korea. So Yesterday I hooked up the horse and wagon, and Jessica and I hit the trail. I don’t know where we’ll go, but it’s going to be an adventure. And if the writing work keeps coming, I may just travel for the next several years.”

Once again, things move east, including John McTiernan.  But who is funding Warbirds, and how much resources will they get?  Will it be a medium tier movie with some hitherto unknown investors from Russia and/or China?  I have faith in McTiernan.
