Today is the 26th of April, therefore the inaugural ‘Alien Day’ as promoted by 20th Century Fox. I like to see it as more than corporate whoring, it is a cool franchise and if nothing else, a way to keep it relevant.
If you look around you can see quite a few cinemas running marathons, the most popular seems to be the Alien/Aliens combination, with some appeasing the more die hard audience with Alien3 being thrown in too.
They should put a word in for Resurrection too though. Looks to me like this movie is still fashionable to hate after all these years. I don’t really see why, even though it’s not a classic, it’s kind of underrated. Cool movie, I caught it on opening day back when it was released.
Now if you ask me, there are only two offenders not invited to ‘Alien Day’ and those are Alien Vs. Predator and Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem. These movies really are a blight on cinematic history and in fact the first almost killed the franchise, two franchises even, in their tracks. Thanks, Paul Anderson. I’d also like to know if there’s any truth to the rumour that Ridley Scott and James Cameron were about to team up for an Alien movie, before Fox decided to pursue this slug as a director instead…
