‘The Predator’ Will Invoke Close Encounters, Says Black

It’s good to see Shane Black is willing to talk ‘Predator’ during his promotion of The Nice Guys.  He also seems keen to stress that ‘The Predator’ will be a fresh movie in the series without being a reboot.  Speaking with DenofGeek, Black seems to think that some themes will be taken from Close Encounters of the Third Kind;

“The sensibility will be part noir, part mystery and part Close Encounters. The feeling I loved about Close Encounters was, you had this ordinary guy, Roy Neary, to whom this is all new. I think the danger of a Predator sequel is that it’s not new to anybody anymore. ‘Oh, look honey – another Predator. Yeah, we had one of those last year. Gagh, is he in the barn again? Oh God, he’s had the sheep.’ You know? That’s the danger. That it’s too familiar – we have to find a way to make him mysterious again.”

I trust Black, so we’ll have to see where this goes.  Things are looking good so far not only for the Predator franchise but also the Alien universe, two more Alien movies in the pipe too and not a Paul W.S. Anderson to be seen!
