Well I’m not even sure if this is a positive thing to be marking, but 20 years ago they were running this movie in cinemas. Escape From L.A. is two decades old.
I don’t think it’s a very popular movie. It’s probably worse than inferior to ‘New York’, in that it’s pretty damn cynical and kind of killed the franchise. Maybe it’s a case of ‘who is to blame’ rather than fond remembrance.
Well you can blame both John Carpenter and Kurt Russell for this one. It wasn’t a case of some pissant like Paul W.S. Anderson getting his hands on it. Carpenter and Russell were all over the writing and directing process, with Russell especially pushing for it to be made.
But there are still people out there who like this movie for sure. It was a box office bomb though, taking about half of its budget back.
Elsewhere on the ‘anniversary calendar’, 25 years ago this week Jean Claude Van Damme’s Double Impact was hitting theatres, it was to do battle with Charlie Sheen’s Hot Shots! Now there was a watchable movie…
