Arnold Schwarzenegger was the original choice to appear in an Alien Vs. Predator movie. And the movie was supposed to appear a decade before the movie that we eventually got.
Destructoid.com ran an article a while back, mentioning that the 1990s arcade game was going to be a tie-in to a big movie Fox was developing.
“However, Capcom took home the nostalgia trophy, with its 1994 arcade classic still fondly remembered by many today. Aliens vs. Predator for the arcade featured three-player co-op and the four characters were made up of two marines and two predators, uniting against the Xenomorph threat. The game was actually based off of an early draft film script and its release had been intended to coincide with an Aliens vs. Predator movie, even when an entirely new script had been written. However, no Aliens vs. Predator film was to surface for another decade, so the game eventually released as a standalone crossover in 1994. Many would argue it was better than the film that eventually came out.”
Roland Emmerich was set to direct, with Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as Dutch, sort of. But this time, he was set to have a mechanical arm and actually be a cybernetic organism. The arm would’ve had a built in smart gun (see toy figure above).
The story would’ve taken place on earth, with a group of people being surrounded by alien drones, only to cut a deal with some Predators to help fight them. To be honest, that sounds like complete shit, maybe even worse than Anderson’s stuff.
The need to get the message… AVP must be set in space!
