Cruise Hypes Faltermeyer’s Return For Top Gun: Maverick

This sounds like all around good news.  Tom Cruise is out promoting The Mummy (confession; I might actually watch that, since it has Cruise in it, and he seems to appear in more good movies than not) and in doing so has been hyping Top Gun 2, and has revealed that Harold Faltermeyer will return.  Here is what he says about the tone;

“We’re gonna have the same tone that we had with the first one. Stylistically it’s gonna be the same. We’re gonna have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer. Aviators are back. The need for speed, we’re gonna have big machines. It’s gonna be a competition film like the first one, and it’s gonna be in the same vein, the same tone as the first one but a progression for Maverick.”

Good, that’s the kind of stuff you want to hear.

At last report Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise on “Oblivion,” is in talks to direct. Cruise also reveals the current title:

“It’s not gonna be called Top Gun 2 it’s gonna be Top Gun: Maverick. I didn’t want a number. You don’t need a number.”

It was recently suggested by Cruise that the movie will probably go into production later this year.
