Jim Cameron Not A Fan Of Streaming Replacing Cinema

There has been a lot of talk recently of moving movie releases on demand forward, closer to their cinematic release dates.  There has even been talk of releasing them concurrently or even replacing them altogether (at a premium price).

Now, filmmaker James Cameron has given his thoughts on this issue and is not a fan of it.  He tells the Telegraph (via Toronto Sun):

“I’m not into it – I think it’s a stupid idea. The sanctity of the theatre-going experience is something I never really want to see go away. I actually don’t think it will go away, but people shouldn’t be denied the option of seeing a film on the big screen.”

There are a lot of factors in there.  One example is that cinemas actually don’t take in most of their revenue through ticket sales, but through beverages, popcorn, etc.  Most of that sold at extortionate prices.

Another thing is that getting a good cinematic experience often means waiting a week or so, to avoid utter bullshit… and if these new proposals mean getting the latest stuff on release date, in peace, in 4K, it will be competitive.
