Check out the latest trailer for John Woo’s highly anticipated Manhunt, featuring a bit more trademarked Woo action. The film is slated for an Asian release on the 23rd of November onward. No word on a Western release date yet.
Based on a novel by Japanese writer Juko Nishimura, the story follows a prosecutor framed for robbery and rape who sets out on a one-man mission to clear his name. Woo’s film stars China’s Zhang Hanyu, Japan’s Masaharu Fukuyama and South Korea’s Ha Ji-Won, and was filmed primarily in Japan in the cities of Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo. It is the second film adaptation of the novel, with the first being the 1976 Japanese film of the same name starring Ken Takakura.
The film premiered at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, and early reviews for the film have been mixed-to-positive, with The Guardian, Collider, Screen Daily, The Film Stage, and FirstShowing.Net among those heaping praise towards Woo’s latest.
